A Growing Church
On Sunday 20th March 1966 the church celebrated its 12th Anniversary, and opened a new Nursery building. In 1972 it became necessary to further extend the property and a new church sanctuary was built, opening with Rev. Jim Finch as pastor. In 1978 Rev. Len Lewis began a twelve year ministry and the church continued to grow and to branch out in many new areas. A play group, a drop-in centre at the Community Hall, a ministry to divorced or widowed people, as well as teams in basketball, cricket and netball, all began at this time. The youth group was of great value with a number of those attending going into the ministry at a later date. Rev. Darrell McKerlie commenced his ministry in 1992 and again it was found necessary to extend the buildings. The opening of the extension and refurbishment in 2002 coincided with the anniversary of 50 years of continued ministry in the Mooroolbark area. The 50th Birthday Service in April 2002 was well attended by many past members, who all enjoyed seeing the Rev. Len Lewis once again take to the pulpit at MBC.
